The first time I ran, it was an absolute torture. Back then, I was around nine years old, I couldn’t think of anything more boring than running for ten minutes at football practice. I hated it. I wanted to start training and score a few goals. At the time, I could hardly have imagined that I would enjoy this sport so much one day.
The first few runs were hard and short. For 1.5 or 3 km I tortured myself a short distance around my flat. The longer I ran, the more fun I had. The longer I ran, the more my body fat percentage stabilized. The longer I ran, the freer my head became. Within a year, from an urge to lose weight, running became a new hobby. In 2015, I ran my first half-marathon in Braunschweig in 1 hour and 51 minutes. 2016 a little slower in Marburg (Lahn). I kept running and at some point started playing volleyball on the side and could finally eat all the delicious pizzas and burgers I wanted again. Over time, my volleyball training took over, and I concentrated more on smashing balls over a net than on counting kilometers.
The beginning of the Corona pandemic hit me relatively hard regarding sports. From one day to the next, no more volleyball. I didn’t really feel like running outside during a pandemic(or wasn’t really allowed out because of curfews). The problem with keeping my weight came back again. In a short time, I gained 9 kg and decided to start running again. That was a few months ago. I’m currently training for a half-marathon again, so I can eat all the delicious pizzas and burgers.
